Payroll Administrator

The Payroll Administrator will perform specific functions related to payroll administration and general accounting activities. Responsibilities will include processing payroll, maintaining payroll related records and reports and providing support to the finance team.

The Position

This role is responsible for:

  • The processing of the company payroll on a semi-monthly basis including time and attendance systems.
  • Handling payroll and benefits administration including; new hire setup, status changes, termination, benefits processing, ROE, etc. Manage inquiries and responses through prompt and courteous communication with providers, employees and management, escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Employee pension contributions.
  • Prepare and maintain related payroll records and reports.
  • Prepare T4’s and T2200’s annually.
  • Responsible for documenting workflow and work procedures related to the payroll system.
  • Prepare and maintain standard and ad hoc reports, queries, and conduct appropriate audits to ensure data integrity.
  • Remittance of WSIB, WCB for all provinces.
  • Primary Liaison for the internal financial shared services team.
  • Verification and mailing of invoices on a daily basis.
  • Coordinate with Shared Services Receivable on any changes on customers account.
  • Maintain, scan and distribute cheques, supporting documents to appropriate financial shared services team.
  • Assist with audit requests.
  • Provides accounting and project management support to the Finance team.
  • Provide accounting support to Finance personnel when required - Accounts Receivable & General Accounting and Reporting.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

This role will be located in the Mississauga.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for the following experience, knowledge and abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least 2-3 years’ related experience within a payroll function.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Payroll / Accounting is preferred.
  • Computer literacy; familiarity with information technology concepts, personal computers, Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess strong math skills and a solid understanding of financial terms.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Canada-wide Payroll legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge of payroll related Employment standards.
  • Ability to perform data entry and communicate electronically with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply government codes.
  • Ability to deal effectively with all internal customers and external business contacts while conveying a positive, service-oriented attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment. 
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion in business relationships and exercise sound business judgment.
