Job Description

Position Overview:

Responsible for the design and development of the pneumatic system of Datascope products. The Senior Pneumatics Engineer applies expertise as an emerging authority in the pneumatics engineering discipline, with specialization in pneumatic system design and related fields. Highly competent, he works on complex projects where solutions to problems require ingenuity and creativity. Conceives and develops solutions to difficult analytical and mechanical design problems, participates in establishing system or component design objectives and writes portions of complex specifications and engineering reports. Work is performed with minimal direction. Provides training, technical advice and guidance to lower level engineering personnel.

Job Duties

  • Responsibilities include the conceptual design and development of pneumatic systems as well as pneumatic fluid power control components (i.e. regulators, valves, etc.)
  • Reviews and helps to develop product specifications
  • Reviews existing designs and participates in troubleshooting and brainstorming to identify root cause and corrective actions
  • Conducts conceptual design studies using MCAD and other applicable design tools.  Collaborates with other engineering functions
  • Performs detailed mechanical design work using MCAD and other design tools.  Analyzes  engineering data using computer-aided analysis and classical techniques to verify that designs meet requirements
  • Coordinates the pneumatics system design with the electrical engineering, Biomedical engineering and software engineering efforts
  • Develops prototype hardware using internal manufacturing resources and outside vendors
  • Tests product to verify that designs meet specification requirements such as environmental, regulatory and safety requirements
  • Generates documentation supporting the design

Background Experience:

  • BSME or MSME and a minimum of 6 years of related experience in design/product development of pneumatic system.
  • Experience that includes the design of mechanical components and systems, including systems that utilize solenoid valves, valve manifolds, compressors, seals, various types of connectors (both permanent and quick-disconnect), and other applicable components.
  • Advanced proficiency with Creo software and database management software is strongly preferred
  • Formal training in basic and advanced topics in Solid Works is preferred
  • Ability to operate test equipment such as various pressure and flow measurement equipment, PC-based data recorders, simulators, DVM’s and oscilloscopes
  • Knowledge in medical device industry regulations and practices – ISO 13485 & CFR Part 820
  • Strong technical and analytical ability, verbal and written communication skills, ingenuity and creativity, interpersonal and project management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, MS Office applications,  and Adobe Acrobat
  • Advanced proficiency with MicroSoft Visio and Microsoft Project preferred
